Achievements at a Glance

  • Prem Ashram Sansthan was started in 1971. From that time till today, about 1000 Divyang children have received education and training and their self-esteem and self-confidence has been enhanced. Along with this, the parents of these children have been trained and made aware through this institution so that they can make every possible effort for their upliftment.
  • First Institute of the state to provide Special education for the differently abled children.
  • First Institute of the State to provide residential facilities for the differently abled children.
  • First Institute of the state to start Diploma Level Training Programme named Diploma in Education Special Education (Mental Retardation) recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi.
  • First Institute of the state to start certificate courses like caregivers training, Advanced Certificate course in Inclusive Education (Cross Disability), Continuing Rehabilitation Education Programme, Training Programs for the Parents of Differently Abled, Workshops, Seminar etc.
  • First Institute of the State to start Community Based Rehabilitation Programme.
  • First Institute of the State to start Therapy, Early Stimulation, and Intervention Program for Developmentally Risk and Developmentally Delayed children.
  • First Institute of the State to get registered under National Trust.
  • First Institute of the District to join Special Olympics – Sports Programmes for Intellectually Disabled persons in collaboration with Special Olympics Himachal Pradesh.
  • Many children have been provided basic education and sent to regular school for general education. Currently one child is studying in Kalyan Mount Shivalik Public School, and he secured third position in the result of 5th class examination, which is commendable.
  • Special Olympics India has opened 9 sports centres in Himachal Pradesh, and Prem Ashram is one of the sports centres in Distt Una. Children With Special Needs are benefitting from the various activities.
  • Children of Prem Ashram Institute have participated in cultural competitions at state and national levels and won gold and silver medals.
  • Currently 7 students are being trained in vocational skills at the National Career Service Center for Differently Abled in Una.
  • The two-year special education course run by the Rehabilitation Council of India at Prem Ashram Institute since 2005 has trained 500 special teachers, who are now providing their services across India.
